Abraham (aka Abe) is what you would call “home grown”. Abe is no stranger to the San Fernando Valley where he was born and raised. Growing up in Mission Hills with 2 sisters and 4 brothers, his life was never short of a dull moment. Having been raised in a Catholic family and completing his 1st communion, Abe knew early on there had to be more to the story of God. He would eventually find himself hitting rock bottom begging God for answers at age 21. God answered in a big way by leading him to Shepherd of the Hills Church December of 2000.
Abe would eventually be reconciled to God and at the same time to a childhood friend of his named Desserie. He was baptized here at Shepherd September of 2001 and married her later that same month. In 2003 they joined a Life Group and were mentored to lead their own group by 2004. God began moving rapidly in the restoration process of Abe’s life as he “Encountered God” at our very own Men’s Encounter in 2005. He began serving in our church and in 2008, Abe was hired to join our pastoral staff in our Life Groups ministry where he has come along side men calling them to live a life of FREEDOM in Christ. He is currently working on his Bachelors in Biblical studies at Eternity Bible College in Simi Valley, California. Together Desserie and Abe have 3 children: Avi-5, Alijah-3, and their newborn Mia.
He has been working with Life Groups and Men’s Encounters for the last 7 years and feels called to minister here in the San Fernando Valley where God has placed him. He has a heart for his community and hopes to continue to be a bridge between Jesus and the un-believing world. His heart bleeds for building and training disciples, understanding that “the body” needs to be functioning together to impact their communities with the Gospel.
An avid Laker fan, Abe also enjoys Southern California beaches, window-shopping (yes you read that correctly), reading, and Barbecuing for his family and friends. He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids more than anything else. The tickle monster gets the best of his kids while his wife puts up with his repetitive stories.
Things you may not know about him:
- He always wanted to be a fireman
- He is a muscle car enthusiast, but doesn’t actually own one
- He hopes one day to meet Brad Pitt, just because he’s Brad Pitt.
